CHAMBER LUNCHEON
This week's luncheon will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the Best Western Abbey Inn

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

Red Rock Center for Independence's Annual Dinner and Silent Auction
The 10th Annual Red Rock Center for Independence Dinner and Silent Auction will be held April 7th, 2009 at 6:30 pm at the Abbey Inn. Red Rock Center for Independence is determined to hold their annual fundraiser again this year, in spite of the current economic crisis. Because of the financial cuts coming from the State, money raised this year is even more important to people with disabilities in our community than in years past. Dr. Gilbert R. Escandon will be conducting this seminar entitled “Preventing trips to the Emergency Room – Cuts, Burns & Falls”. Dr. Escandon is an Internist and Emergency Medicine Physician with more than 16 years of experience. Dr. Escandon earned his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin, Madison School of Medicine. He completed his Internship and Residency Training with the University of Washington, Spokane campus. Dr. Escandon previously practiced for Group Health Northwest, Deaconess Medical Center Urgent Care Clinics, and most recently as the Director of FastTrack with Spokane Emergency Medicine Associates at Deaconess Hospital E.R., Spokane, Washington. Financial Hope Support Group Offers Counsel
The public is invited to participate in a new outreach support program sponsored by Intermountain Healthcare titled: The Financial Hope Support Group. The monthly programs begin on March 25th, and will continue on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 2:00 pm in the Knight Education Building, located at 600 S. 300 East in St. George. The Financial Hope support group is coordinated by Pat Sapio. Sapio has a master’s degree in marriage and family counseling and social work. He was the assistant professor of social work at the University of Wisconsin for nearly 30 years. He currently co-directs PRIME Senior Services at Dixie Regional Medical Center and teaches courses on stress management as an adjunct faculty member of Dixie State College. Coyote Gulch at Kayenta Watercolor Workshop
In this month’s watercolor workshop, Russell Black will return to a basic concept of using an abstract "start" as an under painting for a Wash and Silhouette painting. The W&S painting is the easiest type of watercolor to pull off, and is the most flexible in it's approach This day will give you plenty of practice with a brush in your hand and will cover many of the skills necessary for all types of watercolor painting. This class will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 9:30 am - 4:00 pm. The cost is $40.00 (Adults, 16 years and up). Materials are not included. Washington County Children’s Justice Center Golf Tournament
The Washington County Children's Justice Center is holdign their Shotgun Golf Tournament at the Sand Hollow Resort & Golf Course, Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 8:00 am. This tournament is played in a 4 Man Scramble. The cost is $85 per player, with an 80 Player Limit. Come raise funds for the Washington County Justinf Center and get the chance to win prizes! There are also Hole Sponsorship spots available for $400. Tournament dress code includes collared shirt and slacks. No Jeans Allowed. UDOT Region 4 Weekly Construction Report
The Utah Department of Transportation has selected to reconstruct the Bluff Street Interchange (Exit 6) at I-15 in St. George, Utah. Paving begins Monday. Rotomilling on Tuesday and Wednesday. Landscaping and finish work continues around the interchange. Business entrances on main street are being improved but will continue to be partially blocked to accommodate paving activity. Expect traffic restrictions this week, especially at night as construction crews install pipe across Bluff Street. Entrances to Main Street businesses near the intersection with Bluff Street will be modified this week. At the Atkinville Interchange (I-15 Milepost 2) workers will continue landscaping and construction activity continues as workers use the adjacent rest area for a staging area and concrete wall construction. The east side accessing the Southern Parkway remains closed. No major traffic impacts are expected. On I-15; South of Bluff Street to Washington (Mileposts 6 - 10) Crews are preparing for final inspection. Please use caution as workers will be found throughout the project. Local St. George, Utah boy, (son of longtime Mayor Karl Brooks), Bart Brooks, Seriously Injured While on a Humanitarian Mission
Brooks had been traveling for three months as part of a 52 week quest around the globe to prove that one person can make a difference anywhere the world; calling his project, “Guerrilla Aid”. He was currently in Uganda helping the Batwa Pygmies. These people are considered a sub-species of humans in their own country, having no rights or voice within the government of Uganda. Driven off their land, harassed by locals and forced to live in horrid conditions in the tops of the mountains, the Batwa pygmy children were starving when Brooks stepped in to make a difference. He had built shelters and raised funds for the purchase of chickens so the children could get much needed protein. Dixie State Campus to Community Service Project will “Kick It” with Washington City March 25
Dixie State College of Utah students, faculty, and staff are banding together to participate in this spring semester’s Campus to Community service project, which will be held on Wednesday, March 25, at the future home of Washington City’s new sports complex, which is near the Virgin River on 300 East. The project, entitled “Kickin’ It Into High Gear,” is designed to assist Washington City prepare an area earmarked for the complex, which will include a number of new soccer fields and other recreational opportunities for the community...more

The Red Rock Rotary Club is creating the "Red Rock Music Festival". This will be an annual event on Mother's Day Weekend. This year it will be on May 9, 2009.
