Washington County Republican Women (WCRW)
WCRW provides Republican women an opportunity to socialize, learn, and contribute to their party and community. Speakers tuned to the current issues produce interesting and informative monthly luncheons. WCRW is a very active organization: there are candidates’ forums, opportunities to serve at election time, and many continuing service projects, such as helping the DOVE Center, raising scholarship funds for veterans of the Iraq War, and providing gifts for the Veterans Hospital. WCRW is an affiliate of the National Federation of Republican Women and the Utah Federation of Republican Women. Monthly luncheon meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month. Dixie High School Theater presents: "The Star Spangled Girl"
Dixie High School Theater proudly presents the opening of Neil Simon's classic comedy, "The Star Spangled Girl," opening at the Dixie High School theater February 19 - 23, & February 26- March 2. In the typical tradition of Dixie High School theater, Director Russell Saxton's amazing creativity lends itself to this classic production set in 1966 San Francisco. Dixie State College Recital
Dixie State College will present its annual DSC voice students in recital Friday, February 20, at 7:30 pm, in the Dolores Dore’ Eccles Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on the Dixie State College campus. The recital, under the direction of Dr. Ken Peterson, is free and open to DSC students, faculty and staff, and the public. The 31st Annual Presidents Day Fly-In
Remote Possibilities RC Club of St. George, UT is having their 31st Annual Presidents Day Fly-In on February 20-22, 2009. This Annual Event is dedicated to remote controlled model aircrafts. The aircrafts featured at this event vary in size from 35 inch to 120 inch wingspans and their flight characteristics are to be witnessed to be believed. SunRiver’s Class Act Theater Company Presents: My Fair Lady
A Cockney flower girl will take speech lessons so that she can pass as a lady when SunRiver’s Class Act theater company presents My Fair Lady: Readers Theater. Show times are 6:00 pm February 16 through 20, with a 1:00 pm, matinee performance on Wednesday, February 18. Admission is free. Seating is first-come, first-serve. My Fair Lady is based upon George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play Pygmalion. Pygmalion, a sculptor from Greek mythology, is denied romantic involvement, yet he falls in love with the statue he creates. How are your New Year resolutions going? The St. George Recreation Division, along with Mayor McArthur, is encouraging folks to exercise and be healthy! Something new for St. George!
The Red Rock Rotary Club is creating the "Red Rock Music Festival". This will be an annual event on the Mothers Day Weekend. This year it will be on May 9, 2009. This will be a free concert in the park with Southern Utah Songwriters Association. Ten bands will perform. If any Chamber Members want to get involved, contact Ed Rogers for more information. The annual Dixie State College Employment Fair is scheduled for Thursday, February 26. It will be held in the Gardner Center Ballroom from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. The 22nd Annual Robert N. and Peggy Sears Dixie Invitational Art Show and Sale
The 22nd-annual Robert N. and Peggy Sears Dixie Invitational Art Show and Sale, recognized as one of the biggest art events in the state of Utah, is currently open to the public at the Dolores Dore´ Eccles Fine Arts Center on the campus of Dixie State College. The Sears Dixie Invitational, which has been a mainstay at Dixie State College, features nearly 240 works from 130 renowned artists from Utah and the United States, making this year’s show the largest in the event’s history. Weigh to Health Class
Dixie Regional Medical Center is holding a ‘Weigh to Health’ Class Every Wednesday Starting March 4th 2009 at the DRMC River Road Campus in the 4th Floor, Kolob Conference Room. The River Road Campus is located at 1380 East Medical Center Drive. The Class will be held from 6:30 pm -7:30 pm. The cost is $225.00 for entire series (12 classes). Most insurance companies will reimburse a portion of the cost. This class will be presented by Christie Benton, DRMC outpatient dietician, with guest presenters for physical activity, cooking and stress. The course includes 12 evening classes taught by a registered dietitian with guest instructors such as an exercise specialist, a behavior specialist, or a chef — followed by 12 monthly follow-up support group classes designed to help you stick to your diet and lifestyle goals. The 12 weekly classes will help you develop personal goals using eating style and exercise tools, track what you eat and how much you exercise, learn to improve your nutrition, activity and behavior. Bereavement Support Group
The Dixie Regional Medical Center Home Care & Hospice is offering a Bereavement Support Group. This group will meet February 19, 2009 trhough April 9, 2009 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. This is a FREE Class. IT will be held at the Kolob Conference Room, Dixie Regional Medical Center River Road Campus, at 1380 E. Medical Center Drive. This group will be hosted by Jan Mckay, a licensed clinical social worker with Intermountain Homecare & Hospice is trained in all aspects of grief counseling and support and has worked in many aspects of mental health. This Bereavement support group will offer emotional support and education about grieving. The emphasis of the group is that of healing from loss and is open to any adult who has suffered the loss of a loved one. Participants will have the opportunity to explore their feelings about death and loss, as well as learn importand skills; learn from others with similar experiences, and gain support and understanding. Dixie Regional Medical Center is offering a class on Stress Relief for Cancer Survivors. Cancer survivors are invited to come learn how meditation can help them manage stress. UDOT Region 4 Weekly Construction Report
The Utah Department of Transportation has selected to reconstruct the Bluff Street Interchange (Exit 6) at I-15 in St. George, Utah. Miscellaneous jobs are taking place this week. Painting, landscaping, fencing etc. The week of February 16th, rotomilling is expected to get underway. No major traffic impacts are forecasted this week. At the Atkinville Interchange (I-15 Milepost 2) workers will be staining the structure and landscaping. There will be no major traffic impacts. On I-15; South of Bluff Street to Washington (Mileposts 6 - 10) Crews continue to install advanced traffic management systems including fiber optic conduit and cable. Join Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah in Southern Utah for a day of fun, food and prizes while helping us raise much needed funding for our local program. The 5th Annual Zion Country Century
This year the Zion Country Century is celebrating its fifth year and is expecting to have a record turn out of cyclists coming to St. George to enjoy the fantastic riding weather. This year the course will incorporate a large portion of the St George trail system, allowing the riders to ride along the Virgin river and only ride 1 mile on the streets of St George before reaching Washington City and proceeding to the gates of Zion National Park. The ride will benefit the Spina Bifida Association of Utah and has evolved into the associations major fund raiser. Bike2Bike the producer of the event, and a fellow chamber member, is once again offering chamber members the opportunity to put material in our goody bags for only $25, half the normal price! They will be preparing 850 bags this year and need the material by February 17th. There are also opportunities for businesses to sponsor rest stops this year. This can be done by making a financial contribution or by manning the rest stop.
