SunRiver and Residents Use Unique Resources to Develop Dog Park

Trish Souther, a resident of SunRiver and now proud participant with her dogs at Dog Patch--the newly developed dog park for use by SunRiver residents, is amazed at the culmination of efforts to make the project possible. Souther and her group went to work talking to everyone they could think of and engaging them in the dog park concept. Soon cash and in-kind donations began pouring in. A recent chili cook off, Dog Patch t-shirt sales, and generous donations from residents and friends helped raise an initial $7,000 and along with the SunRiver Development match they were ready to begin. Vendors and local businesses like Plant World stepped up and offered free landscape design consulting and discounts when supplies were ready to be purchased. Working along side volunteer residents, SunRiver Development helped coordinate the construction of the fence, irrigation, planting, shade structure and additional cart path...more

2009 Distinguished Citizen Award

St. George Mayor Dan McArthur was awarded the 2009 Distinguished Citizen Award on Saturday November 21st by the Utah National Parks Council, Boy Scouts of America. Mayor McArthur, a long time scouter was selected to receive this award because of his commitment to the betterment of our communities, his desire of continued service and concern for our youth. The Utah National Parks Council and the youth involved in scouting in St. George and surrounding areas have been the recipients of much of his generosity.

Dixie Regional Medical Center Thrift Store

This is the perfect time to experience shopping at the thrift store located at 76 W. St. George Blvd. Due to a large donation of Christmas decorations from Big Lots last year, a large selection of items is available to choose from. Current best bargains are winter clothing and outerwear. The end of month clearance sale will be held on Monday, November 30 with 50% off all merchandise in the store. Best Friends Animal Society is a Sanctuary for Animals!

Founded in 1984, Best Friends Animal Society operates the largest companion animal sanctuary in the United States. On average there are about 1,700 abused and abandoned animals who find refuge at the sanctuary. The largest populations by species are cats and dogs, but there are also horses, parrots, rabbits, potbellied pigs, guinea pigs, etc. These homeless pets are given lifetime care until they are adopted by loving families. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary covers 3,700 acres. The sanctuary property has been featured in many Hollywood films and the main area of the sanctuary?Angel Canyon?is one of the most picturesque spots in Kane County.
