National Driver Appreciation Week is Here!

National Truckers Appreciation Week - Sponsored by Southern Utah Trucking Association will be held November 1st through November 7th. Each year, the Southern Utah Trucking Association and the Dixie Sunshiners pass out "goodies" to over 2,000 trucks at the ports of entry here in St. George. This year, they will be handing out cold drinks and food to truckers at the Utah-Arizona ports of entry on November 5th. Give your support to this service by contributing either "goodies" or monetary donations to buy supplies, etc. More than 80 percent of U.S. communities depend solely on trucking for delivery of their goods and commodities. Professional truck drivers drove over 430 billion miles, providing our groceries, medical supplies, and making sure that we have life?s essentials. Show your appreciation for our truckers! For more information on how you can help, call Dale Ipson at 435-673-1886 or Click Here

Stop the Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) Act!

The Chamber supports more effective consumer protection that is
centered on ensuring consumers have access to clear and concise
disclosures about risks posed by financial products, and on weeding out
the fraudulent and predatory actors. Unfortunately, Congress is soon
expected to consider a bill that would create a new and massive
government agency which will do far more harm than good. Even before
the financial crisis hit, the U.S. Chamber's Center for Capital Markets
Competitiveness (CCMC) called for regulatory reform, including
strengthening consumer protections. However, the Chamber is opposed to
the CFPA because adding new regulatory layers and enacting expansive,
and duplicative, regulatory authority will not produce the smarter,
more effective regulation we need. This week Congress will mark up a
new draft and we need to make sure they hear from us regarding how this
bill will hurt all American businesses. Protect your business, and help

UDOT Region 4 Weekly Construction Report

The Utah Department of Transportation has selected to reconstruct parts of I-15 and various roadways in the Washington County Area. Workers are installing new signs and traffic markings for the west roundabout to guide drivers through the new configuration. Workers continue constructing storm drainage, installing conduit, and excavating shoulders. Modifications on the east side of the interstate are now underway. Alterations on the east side will eventually change the way traffic accesses local business near the Bloomington Interchange at Exit 4. Caution should be used while exiting I-15 due to potential ramp congestion adjacent to the roundabout construction. The northbound off-ramp width will be narrower this week to provide room for adjacent construction work. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes if possible, especially during peak driving times. Evening work may also restrict traffic flow. On I-15; Washington To Cottonwood Creek, Milepost 10 to 19, Seeding and landscaping are underway and final completion details are in process this week. Potential single lane closures due near landscape seeding operations. On State Route 18, between I-15 and Dixie National Forest (Milepost 5.3 to 6.3 North of St. George), workers are nearing completion of excavation. Seeding will follow in coming weeks. There will be minimal traffic impacts. Pier work and abutment work is underway on the north side of the existing Valley View Bridge.
