The St. George Area Chamber of Commerce presents this month's Sustainability article, "Recycling in Southern Utah"
It seems hard to reconcile the pioneer mantra of “Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without” with our ‘disposable’ society where seemingly nothing is built to last and our focus is on consumption. Arguably the only thing shorter than our collective attention span is the amount of time it takes for products to wear out or break. Against this backdrop of a society driven by hyper-consumerism where the average American throws away 1679 pounds of garbage a year, there is a countervailing current – the growth of recycling.
