Washington County ranked 5th in Utah for Growth

Utah CEO Magazine and CNNMoney.com ranked two Utah counties among its best for job growth. Both Tooele and Washington counties were included on the list, which relied on employment data reported between 2000 and 2007. Tooele Count topped the list at No. 1 with an employment increase of more than 123 percent. Top employers in the county include the Department of Defense and EG&G Defense Materials. Washington County placed at No. 5 with a nearly 58 percent increase, thanks to increased tourism and service jobs, plus the expansion of the 250-acre Fort Pierce Industrial Park that took place in 1999.

Utah CEO Magazine Names Local Bank in Top 25

The Village Bank was ranked among the top 25 best-performing banks in America by the American Banking Association. The list includes commercial banks, thrifts and bank holding companies with assests in excess of $100 million. The rankings, which were based on data from 2007, indicated that St. George-based The Village Bank netted a return greater than 25 percent and maintained an asset growth rate of more than 31 percent.

SouthWest Federal Credit Union is collecting materials to make lap quilts for children in area hospitals. Last year, SouthWest Federal donated 400 quilts thanks to employee and community support. The 5th Annual National Preparedness Month

Across the United States, 2,700 NPM coalition members, made up of national, regional, state, and local organizations will combine efforts to encourage all Americans to take steps to prepare for emergencies before they happen. The NPM 2008's theme is "Get a Kit, Make a Plan, Be Informed and Get Involved." To be involved in St. George, the St. George Police Department is offering a Community Emergency Response Training. This is a 24 hour, 9 unit, all hazards, hands on, class that is now in its 7th and final session for 2008. They also have classes now scheduling for 2009. UDOT Region 4 Weekly Construction Report

The Utah Department of Transportation has selected to reconstruct the Bluff Street Interchange (Exit 6) at I-15 in St. George, Utah. Construction on the project has begun with the majority of the work continuing through September 2008. Construction on the structures will continue through the winter. The purpose of this project is to improve traffic flow on Bluff Street and enhance the operation of the I-15 interchange.
