Brent Hall, partner with HintonBurdick CPAs & Advisors advised that, "’The Internal Revenue Service recently warned taxpayers to beware of several current e-mail and telephone scams that use the IRS name as a lure.” Specifically, taxpayers are cautioned to be on the lookout for scams involving the “tax rebate” checks. The Annual Easter concert of the Heritage Choir will be held on Sunday, March 23rd at 7:30 pm at the DSC Cox Auditorium. The theme for this concert Is “Consider the Lilies” from the beautiful piece by Roger Hoffman. Presenting lovely sacred choral works on Easter Sunday has been a long-standing tradition of the Heritage Choir. Cottontail Scramble Egg Hunt
Easter is hopping up on us early this year so don’t miss meeting the Easter Bunny at the Tonaquint Nature Center. The Tonaquint Nature Center will be hosting their Annual Cottontail Scramble on Monday, March 17 from 6:00-7:30 pm. The Scramble will begin with a free egg hunt at 6:00 pm for children 0-8 years old with staggered starting times. The 21st Annual Robert N. and Peggy Sears Dixie Invitational Art Show and Sale
This event is currently open to the public at the Dolores Dore´ Eccles Fine Arts Center on the campus of Dixie State College. The Sears Dixie Invitational, which has been a mainstay at Dixie State College, will feature nearly 250 works from 130 renowned artists from Utah and the United States, making this year¹s show the largest in the event¹s history. Award categories for the show include oils, watercolor, pastels and other media. In addition, the show regularly features several bronze works. Since the inaugural Sears Dixie Invitational Art Show in 1988, a portion of each painting purchased has been allocated to help fund the art gallery in the Eccles Fine Arts Center. The Sears Dixie Invitational Art Show made its debut in that new gallery in 2005, which will remain the show¹s permanent home. Appropriately enough, the gallery bears the name of the show's founders, Peggy and the late Bob Sears. The exhibit runs daily through Saturday, March 22. The School of Life Foundation is celebrating their one-year anniversary in March 2008
An event planned for the entire community is the first annual “March Mayhem in the Desert” scheduled for Saturday, March 22 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm at Snow Canyon High School. All proceeds from this basketball event will benefit the Children’s Justice Center, the IMPACT organization and the teen-outreach program of the Washington County Youth Crisis Center. The teams involved in the games are Team Tragedy (Washington County Youth Crisis Center) vs. the Rec-N-Crew (an all-star team from the St. George City Recreation League) playing at 11:30am, and the Men From the Hood (IMPACT) vs. an all-star team from the St. George City Fire Department playing at 1:00pm. AAUW Bridge Luncheon Fundraiser
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will sponsor their annual Bridge Luncheon at 12:00 on Saturday, March 29th, at Grace Episcopal Church. WHATS HAPPENING
The Southern Utah Trucking Association will host its first-annual SUTA Scholarship Fundraiser Golf Tournament Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at the Sunbrook Golf Course
Proceeds from the tournament will go to benefit scholarships at Dixie State College, the Dixie Applied Technology Center and the Southwest Applied Technology Center in Cedar City for driver training, engineering and maintenance. This Four-person scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m., preceded by a luncheon and registration at 12 noon. Cost is $125 per player/$500 per team, which includes green fees and cart, and range privileges. In addition, there will be tee prizes, games, drawings and prizes for the winning teams. Dixie Regional and Valley View Medical Centers Sponsor Canned Food Drives to Benefit Care and Share
March is National Nutrition Month, and Dixie Regional and Valley View Medical Centers are celebrating with canned food drives to collect food for the Care and Shares in each community. Donations will help the homeless enjoy the benefits of good nutrition. Residents of St. George may drop off donations throughout the month of March to a box inside Repeat Performance, the thrift store run by The Foundation of Dixie Regional Medical Center located at 76 West St. George Blvd. Cedar City residents can bring canned goods to the offices of The Foundation of Valley View Medical Center (located in the hospital) throughout the month of March. In addition to the locations mentioned above, food can be taken directly to the Care and Share in each community. The Pine View High School Class of 1988 is organizing a 10k/5k Fun Run - '88 & Beyond'
The 1988 Pine View High School Graduating Class is trying to raise scholarship funds for the Pine View High School Class of 2008 and classes beyond. They are ready to receive funds through Pam Graf at the Foundation for Students of Washington County. 100% of the registration fees will go towards this scholarship fund. First Annual Celebration of Life Concert
Hear about the miracle of donation and transplantation. To be held on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Pineview High School, located at 2850 E 750 N. The program will start at 7:00 pm and will feature pianist Cory Reese, vocalist ShaLyse Walker, pianist Alex Allred, and the St. George Garbage Can Band. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Hawaiian Dance Class at the St. George Recreation Center
Sway into shape Hawaiian style at the St George Recreation Center with Anja Kaonohi. The very talented Ms. Kaonohi has 25 years of experience in Polynesian dance and has performed around the world for the Polynesian Cultural Center Promotional Team. The 4-week beginner class will teach students Hawaiian songs and dances using fundamental Hula steps, hand motions, and other movements. The class will begin on March 20, 2008 and is only $25 per student. Session one is designed for kids 5-12 years old and will be from 4:30-5:30 pm. Session two is designed for 13 year olds through Adults and will be hosted from 7:30-8:30 pm. Interested participants may register at www.activityreg.com or at the St. George Recreation Center.
