The Board of Directors of the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce will consider amendments to the bylaws of the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce at its regularly scheduled board meeting on October 22, 2008. The proposed changes will add a conflict of interest policy, clarify voting rights of board members, standardize language and make other technical amendments. Members ONLY may request an email copy of the proposed changes at russ@stgeorgechamber.com. The request must state the name of the requesting individual and the member business.

Dixie State College of Utah Announces Dramatic Enrollment Growth

After waiting nearly seven weeks to publically share the great news, Dixie State College of Utah officials announced Monday a dramatic rise in the institution's 2008 Fall Semester enrollment numbers. Grand Gala Concert

On Saturday, October 25th, a Grand Gala Concert will be held in the Dixie State College Burns Arena at 7:30 pm. This concert culminates a month-long celebration of the arts and is free to the public. Dr. Craig Jessop, acclaimed director of the Tabernacle Choir and now Music Department Head at Utah State University, will direct a 500 voice choir comprised of several area choirs. Also featured will be the Southwest Symphony, Dixie State College Band, and five talented high school choirs. Tributes will be paid to our country, our brave veterans and to the heritage and culture we enjoy in our Color Country region. Fourteen hundred artists and instruments will combine for the grand finale “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

The Downtown Farmers Market at Ancestor Square will continue on Saturday, October 18th from 8:00 am - 12:00 noon in the courtyard at Ancestor Square, located at St. George Blvd. and Main Street in Downtown St. George. Free Tax Workshops for Local Businesses

Two free tax workshops will be offered to businesses in Washington and Iron counties Oct. 23 and 24 at Dixie State College. The workshops will help new and current business owners better understand the complexities and changes in state sales tax and federal income tax law. The Thursday, Oct. 23, workshop runs from 8:30 am to 12 noon and will help new business owners understand and comply with Utah’s laws governing sales and use tax. Participants will learn about licensing requirements, exempt and taxable sales, tax rates, remittance and filing returns. The Utah State Tax Commission sponsors this workshop. The Friday, Oct. 24 workshop, sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service, will focus on withholding taxes for the small business employers. It will be held from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and cover withholding taxes, tax forms, depositing taxes, and implementing health plans. UDOT Region 4 Weekly Construction Report

The Utah Department of Transportation has selected to reconstruct the Bluff Street Interchange (Exit 6) at I-15 in St. George, Utah. Off-ramp work will continue. Workers are installing signs, guradrail and advanced
traffic management systems on I-15. Construction on the bridge will continue into winter. Please slow down and watch for construction workers and equipment.
Drivers should be aware of access points. Off-ramps are still under construction.

Poinsettia Sales Fundraiser to Benefit the Children's Justice Center

The Washington County Children's Justice Center announces their annual Poinsettia Sales fundraiser. The locally-grown plants come in red, white, Jester (red holly leaf), Peppermint (white with splash of red) and pink colors this year. Cost remains $10 each or $8.50 each if you order more than 5. Plants will be ready for pickup on three dates – Nov. 24, Dec. 1 and Dec. 8th from 12- 5 p.m. at the Children's Justice Center. Place your order by calling them at 435-634-1134. These vibrant, healthy, full plants contribute to a cheerful office décor, and make excellent gifts for clients, employees and friends. Orders must be placed in advance. Drip trays are available for an additional $1 per plant.
