AAA Utah announces new manager, Gary Sorensen.

AAA Utah announced last week Gary Sorensen has taken the helm as the Manager of Insurance and Travel Sales for Southern Utah at the Telegraph Street, Washington AAA office.
Sorensen has been with AAA Utah for nine years as Manager of Emergency Road Service, Membership and Travel at the Utah Call Center. He has been in the travel industry for over twenty years traveling worldwide to over 25 countries.
Gary is married to wife Lori and has three boys. He has been looking forward to relocating to the St George area for a long time and joining three other sibblings in the area.

United Way Dixie will officially kick-off their “2007 United Way Day of Caring” campaign on September 6th and 7th

All volunteers will register and enjoy a breakfast donated by Staheli’s Catering, Thursday September 6th and Friday September 7th, at 8:00 a.m. at Vernon Worthen Park, located on 400 East in St. George. Volunteers from local businesses and the community partner together with their enthusiasm and talents to do projects for local non-profit agencies in our area. These agencies help at risk children to succeed and individuals with disabilities, the vulnerable and the aging. Together we can make a difference.

Dixie State College Career Center will host a Student Job Fair on Wednesday and Thursday August 22 and 23.

Nearly 80% of students attending DSC hold part-time and full-time jobs. Students return to school on Tuesday, August 21, and many of them will be looking for jobs. Employers may come and go as they please between the hours of 8AM and 2PM on Wednesday and Thursday. We will have a huge tent set up on the sidewalk between the library and the career center. The Summit Tennis Academy is excited for summer!

Their junior programs are going to be great! Monday, Wednesday and Friday they will have Team Summit – a drop in clinic for all ages 5-18. Team Summit goes from 8:00 am – 9:30 am. The cost is $12 (non-members pay an additional $5 guest fee). On Tuesdays and Thursdays, they have their ALL STAR Junior program. This is a one hour class from 8:00 am – 9:00 am for ages 5 – 10. Local crisis pregnancy center to hold 1st annual golf tournament

Hope Pregnancy Care Center will be hosting its 1st annual golf tournament on Monday, October 1st, at The Ledges. The event will be hosted by football great, Jay Schroeder of the Washington Redskins. There will be a shotgun scramble starting at 9:00 a.m. A buffet lunch will be provided following the game. Hole sponsors include Steven Wade, who will be offering a Cadillac for anyone who gets a hole-in-one. The cost for participation is $150.00 per player, or $600 per four-man team. KEEPING YOUR TREES ALIVE DURING SUMMER HEAT

The care of trees in front of a business is the responsibility of the business owner as part of the “Certificate of Occupancy” permit. These trees need to be irrigated and kept in good health. Pruning of trees on City rights-of-way is performed by the City Parks Division. Topping, removing or allowing City trees to die due to lack of water is not permitted. Fire Restrictions Lifted at Cedar Breaks National Monument

Due to recent significant rainfall at higher elevations, and subsequent reduction in the risk of wildfire, fire restrictions at Cedar Breaks National Monument have been lifted effective immediately. Visitors are now allowed to build campfires in designated fire rings in the campground. Also, charcoal fires are once again allowed in grills in the campground and picnic area.
While fire restrictions have been lifted, wildfire is always a risk. Fires must be completely extinguished after use. Note that discharging, or using any kind of fireworks, tracer ammunition or other incendiary devices in any location on federal lands is always prohibited.
