The first annual Chamber of Commerce I.D. Theft and Shredding day is in the books. Chamber members, Elite Shredding and KWIK Shred provided free “drive-up” shredding for 3 hours at the Chamber Offices.
Dozens of residents and businesses took the opportunity to reduce their risk of identity theft by bringing old personal documents to the Chamber Offices on May 16th to be destroyed. Jane Driggs of the Better Business Bureau of Utah outlined a new Utah law making every business responsible to protect and destroy documents containing the personal information of employees and customers at the Chamber luncheon earlier that day. Jane then rolled up her sleeves and greeted visitors at the Chamber, and assisted them in loading those sensitive documents into the shredders. Plans to make the effort to help individuals and businesses protect personal information an annual event are already in the works. Thanks to all our sponsors, including Canyon Media, that advertised the event on its radio stations as a service to the public.
