Gini Fairchild is one of The Chamber’s faithful volunteers.
We couldn’t accomplish what we do at the Chamber without the wonderful volunteers we have. Gini has been chosen as our Volunteer of the Month. She volunteers on Wednesday mornings therefore she helps the staff get ready for the weekly luncheons and helps “hold down the fort” while staff is out of the office attending the luncheons. Thanks for all you do Gini.

Dixie State College will host an Employment Fair on Thursday, February 22 in the Gardner Center Ballroom from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Employers wishing to participate may register on-line at www.dixie.edu/career. Last year they had over 100 employers at the Employment Fair and had to create a waiting list for others who waited too long to register. Employers seeking to hire students graduating with 4-year degrees, associate degrees or certificates, summer/seasonal or part-time positions are invited to register. Beehive Homes of Washington County celebrated a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, Feb. 6th
for their new independent living center at 2041 S. Mesa Palms, St. George. Residents were on hand to help cut the ribbon. The mission of Beehive Homes is to provide assistance with the activities of daily living in a respectful, dignified manner in a home-like setting to the elderly who choose to retain their independence and dignity to the fullest measures possible.

 
Fairfield Inn at 1660 S. Convention Center Drive celebrated a ribbon cutting on Thursday, Feb 8th.

Summit Athletic Club -- Summit Tennis Academy was recently recognized as a “Top 50 Welcome Center of 2006” by the Tennis Industry Association (TIA)
for promoting the growth of tennis in the United States. They were commended for their support of industry programs, community development and a variety of programs to new and current members of all ages. “The staff at The Summit Tennis Academy has created a positive tennis experience for people in the St. George area,” says Jolyn de Boer, executive director of the TIA. Unity Church of Positive Living will showcase artists and artisans from the congregation
in an Art Fair to be held on Saturday, February 17 from 2 - 5 PM at the church. A reception will honor the artists, who work in a variety of artistic mediums, including oil painting, watercolor, photography, quilting, jewelry and gem stones. St. George Musical Theater rolls back the clock this February for “The Taffetas,” a musical revue from the fabulous fifties. Residents and Businesses are being asked to restrict water use to indoors only through Wednesday, Feb 14th.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES
HB 158- Will raise gas taxes 2 cents per gallon every two years for the next 10 years.
The bill has passed out of committee.
 
HB 156 & HB 127- One bill will mandate businesses with state contracts verify legal work status, the other bill mandates that all businesses must verify legal work status.
These bills are still awaiting committee assignment.
 
There is a new state law in Utah under code 13-44-201 which concerns the protection of customers' information for all Utah businesses.
The law went into effect in January and is a great step towards protecting individuals who do business in Utah from Identity theft. Submitted by Elite Shredding.
