"As part of its ongoing support of Dixie State College, Intermountain Healthcare has announced it will invest $720,000 in the college's health education programs over the next three years.
The financial commitment will be announced at the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce Luncheon Feb. 7, where Intermountain local administrator Terri Kane will present Dixie State College President Dr. Lee Caldwell with a ceremonial check for the first $240,000 installment. The purpose of the financial assistance is to support hiring program directors for Dixie State's medical career programs, specifically respiratory therapy, medical technology and physical therapy assistants."

Dixie State College will host an Employment Fair on Thursday, February 22 in the Gardner Center Ballroom from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Employers wishing to participate may register on-line at www.dixie.edu/career. Last year they had over 100 employers at the Employment Fair and had to create a waiting list for others who waited too long to register. Employers seeking to hire students graduating with 4-year degrees, associate degrees or certificates, summer/seasonal or part-time positions are invited to register. Home Depot opened their new west side store on Thursday, Feb. 1st and held their ribbon cutting attended by the Sunshiners on Wednesday, January 31st.
Mayor Daniel McArthur was on hand to do the “board” cutting and to lead all in “The Dixie Song”. The new store address is 937 Westridge Drive (just off Sunset).

 
Arnold Machinery held their ribbon cutting on Thursday, Feb 1st at 1409 East 3850 South (Fort Pierce Industrial Park), St. George.
Sunshiners and guest were treated to a tour and lunch served by Dammeron Valley BBQ. Stop by and check out the forklifts and heavy equipment they have available.

 
Ence Homes held a ribbon cutting for Bella Vista in Washington on Friday, February 2nd.

Unity Church of Positive Living will showcase artists and artisans from the congregation
in an Art Fair to be held on Saturday, February 17 from 2 - 5 PM at the church. A reception will honor the artists, who work in a variety of artistic mediums, including oil painting, watercolor, photography, quilting, jewelry and gem stones. The public is cordially invited to the exhibit and reception to meet the artists and artisans and view their works. Some works will be offered for sale. HB 73- Allows the CEO of a political subdivision to invoke price controls during an emergency.


 
HB 127 & HB 156- Both deal with requirements for employers to verify employee eligibility. HB- 127
will require compliance for economic incentives and government contracts. HB 156 enacts the Utah Employment Verification Act, requiring participation in the federal employment verification program.

 
HB 224- This measure to repeal resident tuition status for children of illegal aliens
who have attended high school in Utah for three years and graduated from a high school in the state, or received the equivalent of a high school diploma failed.

The Washington County Republican Women and Dixie State College of Utah announced Jan. 29, the creation of a new scholarship to honor veterans of the Iraq War and the Utah National Guard's 222nd Field Artillery Unit.
The Washington County Republican Women National Guard Unit 222 Scholarship, for which the organization donated $1,280 to begin, will provide financial assistance with college expenses, including tuition, books and college fees to veterans who qualify....more
