Our volunteer for the month is Dorothy Beckett Nolan
Dorothy Beckett Nolan, a New Yorker, moved to St. George from Salt Lake City in January 1993. Continuing prior volunteerism, she has been a volunteer at the St. George library, Southwest District Health Department, Five County Association of Government, Dixie Hospital Council, Utah Visitor’s Center (I-15), docent of Art Museum, nurse at open house for St. George Temple, and Downtown Historical Tour. She also taught CDC classes at the St. George Catholic Church. She designed and taught a “Nursing Aid” course for Bloomington 3rd Ward. She has been a member of Region V Regional Vocational Study Team, Human Services Council and chairperson of Nurse’s Aid Advisory Committee. She was on the staff of College of Nursing, The University of Utah, and a substitute teacher at Mesquite Elementary School. For the past 15 years, she has been a volunteer on Tuesday mornings at the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce.

Santa Clara City is staging a major event surrounding the opening of their new streetscape project along Santa Clara Drive
On Friday, October 19, 2007 at noon, a brief ceremony will take place at Santa Clara’s Heritage Square, 3020 Santa Clara Drive. It will be followed by a ribbon-cutting on the street, tours of the new streetscape area, refreshments, live music, and special business promotions surrounding Santa Clara’s downtown businesses. The event will showcase Santa Clara’s heritage and introduce everyone to the new face of this historic and engaging small town. The Santa Clara City Council endorsed this 9.5 million dollar project to help launch Santa Clara into a greater presence for tourism, a more appealing environment for small business opportunities, and a more tranquil and attractive destination for residents.
